Naraka Chaturdashi:-

The subsequent day to Dhan Teras, is celebrated as Naraka Chaturdashi. It is a day devoted to the God of Death or well named Lord Yama. It is considered extremely auspicious to have an early morning bath in the wee hours on the morning on this day.

It is believed that the holly worth of those who bathe on this Tithi after the break of day is damaged as a result of which people wake up early in the morning and have a bah before anything else. Prior to the bath oil is massaged on the body, which is deeply refreshing and cleansing. Following the bath, Lord Yama is offered libations three time in succession in order to gratify and placate him so that he may spare the from the torments of demise.

A strict fast is observed and at nightfall lamps are lit in honour of Yama. It is supposed that faithfulness observed on this day to felicitate the Lord Yama releases a man from potential agony in hell.
